Leverage Advanced Search¶
You can leverage the advanced search to fetch accounts that match specific parameters and values you are looking for. This streamlines accessibility and makes your work much faster. The option to search accounts based on one or more specific criteria is available on the top right corner of the interface (Marked below).
Advanced search allows you to seek accounts based on multiple search criteria. You can either search All accounts or select a specific Account Type to be searched.
The AND/OR operator¶
Once you have specified the initial account grouping (All accounts or specific types), you can then select whether you want to be displayed accounts that satisfy all criteria or one of the many criteria.
- The AND operation will combine all the criteria and fetch accounts which match all the values and parameters that you specify
- The OR operation will fetch accounts that satisfy at least one of the specified values or parameters.
As an example, this would be a way to filter accounts that match multiple criteria such as:
1) Account should be a Windows domain account
2) Account should have ‘AWS’ in it
3) Account should not be part of the IT folder
Since we need to satisfy all three criteria, we use the AND operator.
And this search would populate all such accounts that match these criteria. In this example, we have two such accounts.
Advanced search is a one-time search - it populates accounts when you search, and the results dissipate once the tab is changed, or another search is carried out.
In case you make use of these accounts on a regular basis or need to save the results of the advanced search for later - You have the option to create an Account Filter out of these search criteria.
4) Create Filters for Enhanced Accessibility
The filters option is available on the listicle menu on the left side of the interface. You can create any number of filters by clicking the + icon under Filters.
This brings up the same search interface as Advanced Search and once you have set it up, it dynamically populates accounts in the Filter based on the search criteria set.
Dynamically populate search results¶
Filters possess a capability that is highly useful and stands out when compared with other search methods – fetching search results dynamically. When you create a filter with specific criteria, it stores that and brings you the results from sorting all accounts in real-time.
So, if you have created a filter and a new account is newly created that satisfies the criteria of the filter – it is populated under that filter.
With our example, this would mean that if a new account is created and matches the following criteria:
4) Account should be a Windows domain account
5) Account should have ‘AWS’ in it
6) Account should not be part of the IT folder
It would be displayed under the filter. And you can come back to the filter anytime you would like to access the segregated accounts.
